Korarima (Aframomum corrorima) is native crop to Ethiopia. Germination of seeds has problem of seed dormancy, which may be associated with the hard seed coat and impermeable Thus, the current study was conducted with the objective of determining the effect of different seed treatment method on seed germination and subsequent seedling growth. Nine seed treatments were applied to korarima seeds: T1 (control), T2 (soaking in tap water for 12 hours), T3 (soaking in tap water for 24 hours), T4 (soaking in 5% sulfuric acid for 5 minutes), T5 (soaking in 5% sulfuric acid for 10 minutes), T6 (soaking in 25% nitric acid for 5 minutes), T7 (soaking in 25% nitric acid for 10 minutes), T8 (soaking in 25% acetic acid for 10 minutes), and T9 (soaking in 80% alcohol for 30 minutes). After six weeks of sowing, seed treate with 80% alcohol for 30 minutes showed effective therapy for increasing seed germination (83.25%),whear as, seed treated with 5% H2SO4 for 10 minutes showed the lowest value of seed germination (47.53%). These results suggest that pre-planting korarima seeds that were immersed in 80% alcohol for 30 minutes may have enhanced seed germination and subsequent seedling growth.
