Phytochemical properties of three genotypes of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba L. cultivated in Iran under irrigation regimes and sowing dates

Heidar Meftahizade

This research was aimed to investigate the effect of sowing date and irrigation regimes on phytochemical attributes of guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba L.) seed. The study was conducted in a split-split plot randomized block design includes two sowing date (15th and 30th July), 4 irrigation regimes and 3 genotypes with three replication for two seasons (2015 and 2016). The seeds were harvested and ethanolic extraction were prepared to analyze physicochemical traits such as antioxidant activity, phenol, tannin, protein, viscosity, galactomannan content, mineral materials and etc. the results showed that there were significant differences in P ≤ 0.01% between sowing date and irrigation regimes in case of phytochemical traits, seed protein, galactomannan content, and minerals. Late sowing date, G3 (RGC-1066) and irrigation schedule 4 stages during growth cycle were the most productive treatments. The range of galactomannan content were 28-33%, where the interaction of late sowing date in irrigation schedule 4 stages, were recorded the maximum of galactomannan (33.8%). Our finding suggested that, in the case of phytochemical traits and mineral materials, guar can be put as an alternative crop in Iran.
