Very little information is available in the physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology of Volvariella volvacea. The current study was carried out to understand the effect of different macro- and microelements and vitamins on the mycelial growth and yield of protein by the mycelia of parental and fusant protoplasts strain of V. volvacea. The method adopted in this experiment was to study the additive and deficient effects of each element on the mycelial growth and protein yield of the fungus under study. The experimental data revealed that complete medium supplemented with all the vitamins tested was the best for the mycelial growth and yield of protein by the parental and fusant protoplasts culture of V. volvacea. This was followed by thiamine, pyridoxine, biotin, riboflavin and ascorbic acid. The data on the effects of elements revealed that the complete medium supplemented with all the minerals was the best for the mycelial growth and yield of protein by the parental and fusant protoplasts culture of V. volvacea. This was followed by Ca++, Fe++, Mo++, K+ and others.
