The chemodiversity and pharmacological potential of the flora are uncounted and allow the study of native plants, such as Platonia insignis Mart. (Clusiaceae), an exotic plant in Piaui, Brazil. Investigations on the chemical composition of the plant of the family Clusiaceae have shown that they are mainly rich in polysoprenylated benzophenones and xanthones, which have been isolated not only from the resins, but also from other plants. Among the known biological activities, they have presented antidepressant, antioxidant, antifungal, antileishmanial, anticonvulsant, antiretroviral, and antibacterial potentials. A scientific and technological forecasting was performed for the main purpose of describing the state of art regarding the use of P. insignis by searching scientific databases and other electronic databases relating to invention patents and utility models, using the scientific name of the species as a descriptor entry for the search. Only one patent deposit was located, and thirteen scientific papers published in the last decade were analyzed. The documents deal with the bioactivity of constituents of P. insignis on toxicological, antioxidants and neuropharmacological effects. The scientific exploration reflects the gaps in technological forecasting, as it presents all pharmacological potential that has been tested and assigned to this species and/or their derivatives.
