The abysmal performance of students in both internal and external examinations in Nigeria in recent times are widely reported and attributed to various causes including paucity of fund, infrastructural decadence and corruption among others. However, not much attention has been directed at examining the empirical relation between the working conditions of teachers and student performance in examinations in Nigeria. The purpose of this study is to review a handful of prior research as it relates to working conditions of teachers, the state of infrastructure and performance of students in examinations. The study, rooted in motivational theory, recommends that the working conditions of Nigerian teachers be improved in the interest of better performance of students in their examinations. The research calls for testable propositions that will focus on how the working conditions of teachers could lead to better performance of students in examinations in Nigeria.
