Non-pharmacological pain management is one approach to a comprehensive method of pain relief. It can be categorized into three categories including cognitive, physical, and environmental or emotional strategies. Non- pharmacological interventions are essentially useful for pain management than pharmacological pain management, because they are low cost, easy to provide, safe, and nurses can implement them with little resources. Nurses must have sufficient knowledge of non- pharmacological pain management methods to effectively practice. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the implementation of non-pharmacological pain management and associated factors among nurses working in public hospitals of Nekemte town, Western Ethiopia, 2020. All professional nurses working in public hospitals of Nekemte Town. An institutional-based cross-sectional study design was employed. Simple random sampling techniques were implemented on 231 nurses working in public in Nekemte town, Oromia, West Ethiopia. Data was entered into epidata version 3.1 and exported to Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) window version 21 for analysis. Both descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency table, percentage, bivariate, and multiple logistic regression analyses with AOR at CI 95% and p<0.05 were used. The overall magnitude of non –pharmacological pain management implemented was 51.5%. Having positive attitude [AOR=5.561(2.048, 15.100)], good knowledge [AOR=0.162(0.047, 0.556)], lack of guidelines [AOR=16.387(2.596, 103.438)], staff workload [AOR=8.713(1.297, 58.506)] and lack of in-service training [AOR=12.31-5(1.812, 83.675)] were significantly associated variables with non pharmacological pain management. The overall magnitude of non –pharmacological pain management implemented was relatively high. Attitude, knowledge, lack of guidelines, staff workload, and lack of in-service training were the major significant factors affecting the implementation of non-pharmacological pain management. We recommended Nekemte specialized hospital medical director to effectively initiate the behavioral modification for implementation of non-pharmacological pain management which is the key strategies to reduce the side of medication usage.
