The study examined the conditions of casual laborers at the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN), Sokoto. Neoliberal theory was used as theoretical guide. Qualitative methods of data collection were employed using 6 focus group discussions comprising casual workers and 5 key informant interviews for management staff as instruments of data collection. The data were analyzed using content analyses. The data revealed that the conditions of casual workers at CCNN were unpleasant, fraught with poor welfare packages, lack of opportunity for personal growth, low wages, absence or partial medical care, lack of job security, promotion, gratuity, freedom of association, and no negotiation or collective bargaining between casual workers and management. The data revealed that all of the casual staff in CCNN were contracted or outsourced. Employers continuously described casual labour as effective means of reducing labor costs. CCNN casual workers were not entitled to essential allowances. In general, the casual workers toil in are unsafe and hazardous working conditions, which put them at various risks. The study recommends the implementation of Labor Act, which is inimical to casualization of labor and every industry should activate appropriate welfare policy for workers.
