IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME IN ADVANCE NATIONAL TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE (ANTC) LEVEL FOR JOB CREATIONIN NORTH-EAST NIGERIA

This study was to assess the implementation of Electrical/Electronic Technology programme at the Advance National Technical Certificate (ANTC) level in Northeast Nigeria for job creation. A descriptive survey research design was used for the study. the area of the study was North-east Nigeria. The population of the study was 104 which consisted of Technicians 22, Instructors 32, Electrical/Electronic Technology Teachers 31 and Administrators 19 in Government Technical College. There was no sampling due to small population. The study sought answers to two research questions were answered with corresponding hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The structured questionnaire instrument used for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts. In establishing reliability, the instrument was trial tested on ten Electrical/Electronic Technology teachers and technical administrators. Cronbach alpha reliability of coefficient of the instrument yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.83, in analyzing the data, five point liket scale . the mean of 3.50 and above used to answer the two research questions and standard deviation two null hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. Findings reveals that the Experimental method, Role play method along side with Lecture method of instructional; Learning activity package method; Methods of teaching was appropriate and curriculum content of the Electrical/Electronic Technology was relevant, it is worthy to note that NBTE curriculum of Electrical/Electronic Technology programme is clear ,goals and objectives are consistent with the goals and objectives of Technical Colleges. It was recommend among others that the Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies should ensure that the necessary and relevant equipment and facilities be adequately provided to Technical Colleges in Northeast Nigeria for job creation. Also, teachers without minimum teaching qualification of NCE (Technical) or its equivalence be encouraged to undertake a postgraduate diploma in technical education (PGDTE) training programme. In addition to Trade component courses offered that are consistent with the present needs of society.
