Most of the wet land area either remains unutilized or underutilized for cultivation and conservation of economic species. The area either remains covered by means of weeds or unmanaged as such lies useless. The present article introduces a model of ‘Aquatic herbal garden’ developed by Herbal research and development Institute (HRDI) at its camps in Mandal area to utilize such partially or fully waterlogged area to grow the medicinal plants and develop the aquatic herbal garden in order to utilize the area for production and conservation of medicinal plants. The area which was previously remained waterlogged and unutilized was developed to produce important aquatic plants viz Buch (Acorus calamus), Mandukparni (Centella asiatica), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Pudina (Mint spp.), etc. The successful production of medicinal plants by establishing ‘Aqatic herbal garden’ makes aware the public about the importance of aquatic medicinal plants for health and wellbeing which are otherwise considered pond weeds.
