Root architecture plays an important role in crop performance but study on the root architecture is limited. In this study, a set of fifty bread wheat genotypes that comprised of 49 lines from CIMMYT and a local check Gautam were evaluated for root and shoot traits at the seedling stage at the research farm of Agriculture and Forestry University, Rampur during the wheat season 2016/2017. Significant differences were observed for root angle of basket method and grain yield among the studied genotypes. The mean root angle was 36.25° with narrowest root angle (26°) found in Gautam and the widest root angle (46.65°) found in 15HTWYT-11. The mean grain yield was 3.24 t/ha. 15HTWYT-41 had the highest yield 4.35 t/ha followed by 15HTWYT-38 and 15HTWYT-42 while genotype Gautam had 2.83 t/ha.
