Abstract

Indigenous knowledge is local knowledge which is passed from one generation to the next and which is peculiar to the community. Such knowledge has not been documented in the past as the mode of transmission was knowing by doing. Attempts to impost technologies that are foreign to the local farmer have not been successful in most cases. It is strongly believed that  the local knowledge of the farmer should be considered when introducing new agricultural technologies as the local farmer us endowed with a considerable wealth of knowledge which could be tapped.
