This article posits that cultural and traditional practices of Virginity Testing (VT) are still prevalent and widespread in South Africa. Even though the practices are criticised by pundits as repugnant and assault on the body of a girl child, this article seeks to focus on the seemingly ritual, festivity and other interesting cultural and traditional activities that take place during the ceremony especially the reed dance being performed after the testing. The girls, their parents and family members including the whole community are usually in joyous and celebration moods during the periods of the ceremony. The cultural and ceremonial aspects of practices are so awesome to the extent that they have caught the attention of tourists local and abroad. During the ceremony, many economic enterprises and activities are known to be displayed by locals for sales and in some cases tourists would have to pay tolls to watch and witness the ceremony. Similarly, researchers and groups writing on different aspects of the cultural tradition would have to attend and stay in the host community hotels and accommodation. All these activities drive socio and economic enterprises in the community and create job opportunities being presented by cultural tradition practices of VT and reed dancing where the people in the community derive benefits from the sale of their merchandise and earn income from hotel accommodation and other related tourism business and opportunities.
