One-pot synthesis of some (1H)-quinoxalin-2-ones

o-phenylenediamine and 4-benzoyl-1,2-diaminobenzene react with ethyl bromoacetate in basic medium under mild reaction conditions to give directly 1H-quinoxalin-2-one (2) and 7-benzoyl-1H-quinoxalin-2-one (4), respectively.
