Determinants of farmers’ adoption intensity of climate adaptation strategies in the Karat Zuria Woreda, Konso Zone, Southern Ethiopia

Main objective of this study was to identify the determinant factors that influence farmers’ intensity of adoption of climate adaptation strategies in the Karat Zuria Woreda, Konso Zone, Ethiopia. The totals of 153 farmers from three kebeles were randomly selected for this study. Qualitative data were collected using semi-structured questionnaire survey. Two limit tobit regression model was employed to analyze the data on the factors influence farmer’s intensity of adoption of climate adaptation strategies. Based on the model the results present that out of sixteen explanatory variables, nine explanatory variables included house hold size, education status, extension contact, access to climate information, membership in community based organization, use of credit, use of improved seed, use of chemical fertilizers and access to irrigation water are significant and positively influence farmer’s intensity of adoption of climate adaptation strategies. Thus, the government needs to design interventions aimed at providing irrigation facilities, prioritizing dissemination of timely weather and agricultural extension information’s, encouraging farmers’ membership to many social groups and provision of financial service and farm inputs.
