This article sought to determine the attitudes and awareness levels of local hotel guests towards guest facing environmentally friendly hotel green gadgets and practices. Calls by various authors in existing literature to include hotel guests in greening efforts also prompted the study. 384 conveniently selected domestic hotel guests from 50 of the 124 hotels registered in the country instituted the study participants. The hotels were stratified by province and star grading and then a dichotomous Likert scale to measure awareness, combined with a 5 point Likert scale to measure attitudes were used to gather the data. Data analysis was done using STATA version 13. This study exposed that local hotel guests to the country’s hotels were quite unaware of contemporary demand oriented hotel green gadgets and practices. However, despite this observation, the guests had positive attitudes towards them. This study therefore, recommends that the country’s national tourism body integrates these practices into its standards and quality assurance statutory instrument and make adherence to the instrument mandatory to hotel registration and licensing. This policy shift could ensure automatic hotel green certification and eco-labeling and concurrently provide opportunities for guests to experience appreciate and participate in green behaviour at the hotels they visit. The findings from this research can be used to come up with a green tourism promotional framework to highlight the guest element in greening operations of the hotel. The resultant green behaviour from this promotion is expected to significantly save costs for hotels in the country and enhance their chances of being successfully green accredited and certified by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Green Tourism UK team.
