Abstract

Chemical constituents of Tinospora cordifolia n-hexane extract were characterized by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and column chromatography. 14 constituents were characterised by GC-MS analysis and column chromatography led to the isolation of β-sitosterol. The immunomodulatory activity of the extract was investigated by polymorphonuclear leucocytes function test and antimutagenic activity by using Salmonellahistidine tester strain TA 98. The extract exhibited potent antimutagenic activity and the IC50value was found to be 1033.98 µg/ 0.1 ml in co-incubation mode and 298.57 µg/ 0.1 ml in pre-incubation mode.
