Protective effect of polysaccharide from the root of Rhizoma Corydalis on focal ischemic cerebral infarct induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion in rats

To investigate the effect of polysaccharide from the root of Rhizoma Corydalis (YhPS-1) on focal cerebral infarct in ischemia-reperfusion injured rats, sixty Wister rats were randomly divided into six groups (n = 10): sham group, control group, YhPS-1-treatment groups (20, 40, and 80 mg/kg), and positive medicine breviscapine table group, respectively. The models of focal cerebral infarct and carotid thrombosis were...

Antioxidant activity and lipid peroxidation of selected wheat cultivars under salt stress

Antioxidants and dietary fibers are compact sources that are recommended for healthy diets in whole grain foods. The antioxidant activity, total phenolic content (TPC) and lipid peroxidation was measured among 15 cultivars of wheat which are commonly used in Pakistan and the effect of salt stress was also evaluated. The results revealed that different concentrations of wheat (25, 50, 75, 150 and 300 µg/ml) in...

Antilipemic activity of ethanolic and hexane extracts from seeds of Bixa orellana Linn. in hyperlipidemic rats

The seeds of Bixa orellana are used in popular medicine as a hypolipidemic drug. This study evaluated the antilipidemic activity of ethanolic and hexane extracts from seeds of B. orellana in dyslipidemic rats. Dyslipidemia was induced by an intraperitoneal injection of Triton WR1339 in male Wistar rats. The animals were treated with the ethanolic and hexane extracts of Bixa orellana. Plasma...
