A nano-technological product: An innovative varnish type for wooden surfaces

In this study, “nanolacke ultraviolet (UV) varnish,” developed by a Turkish dyeing and varnish company and widely accepted as a 21st century technology, has been compared to other conventional varnish types that are widely used in the industry in order to compare the dry film resistance properties of the varnishes. In this study, cellulosic, polyurethane, polyester, synthetic, and nanolacke...

Coloured intensity enhancement of latent fingerprint powder obtained from banana peel activated carbon with methylene blue

This study was aimed at developing activated carbon fingerprint powder derived from banana peel. The obtained powder was then examined for its latent fingerprint identifying capability. First, the banana peel activated carbon powder was ground into fine particles and consequently was sieved using a 400-mesh screen. The powder’s adherent quality was evaluated by dusting it to the residue left by the...

Partial septate uterus and tubal implantation: A normal phenomenon in the Eidolon helvum

The aim of the study was to investigate the macro and micro-anatomical adaptations in the uterus and the type and nature of implantation found in Eidolon helvum. A total of thirty pregnant bats sampled from Obafemi Awolowo University Campus were used in this study. They were harvested and sacrificed by cervical dislocation after being carefully assessed and confirmed to be presumably healthy....

Comparative parasitic helminth infection between cultured and wild species of Clarias gariepinus in Ilorin, North – Central Nigeria

A comparative study of the helminth parasites of cultured and wild Clarias gariepinus in Ilorin, North-Central Nigeria was carried out. A total of 320 C. gariepinus (Teugels) comprising 160 samples each of cultured and wild species were collected live from cultured and wild populations between August 2006 and March 2007. Only wild samples had all parasitic helminth infections. Five species...

Determinants of gender efficiency of small-holder cocoyam farmers in Nsukka agricultural zone of Enugu State Nigeria

The study employed a stochastic frontier Cobb-Douglas production function to measure Gender Efficiency of Small-Holder Cocoyam Farmers in Nsukka Agricul-tural Zone of Enugu State, Nigeria. A multi-stage random sampling technique was used to select 120 cocoyam farmers disaggregated into 60 males and 60 females in 2008. The results of the analysis show that individual farm level technical efficiency was higher...

Inhibition of the corrosion of mild steel in H2SO4 by penicillin G

Inhibitive and adsorption properties of penicillin G for the corrosion of mild steel was investigated using gasometric and thermometric methods. Penicillin G is found to inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in H2SO4. Inhibition efficiencies of penicillin G increased as the concentration of penicillin G increases but decreased with increase in temperature. Penicillin G is found to act as an adsorption...

Effects of juglone on seedling growth in intact and coatless seeds of cucumber (Cucumis sativus cv. Beith Alpha)

The main aim of this study was to test if the seed coat is a barrier to restrict juglone’s entrance into the seed using intact and coatless seeds of cucumber (Cucumis sativus cv. Beith Alpha). Elongation, fresh and dry weights of cucumber seedlings were decreased significantly by juglone in both intact and coatless seeds. Protein content in cotyledons of cucumber seedling was also decreased by...
