Abstract
There is 4.5 million ha of land, which needs to be planted, in Turkey. Turkey has planted 1.9 million ha of land since 1937. After the mid-1980s governments have strongly encouraged private plantations, and private entrepreneurs have planted approximately 80,000 ha of land. This paper is focused on socio-economic factors, which affect the extent of private plantations. For this, the authors selected 21 socio-economic factors as independent variables, and investigated the relation between these factors and the extent of private plantations at province level. As result, the authors determined that the extent of private plantations in rural areas, where agricultural production is effective and infrastructure is developed, is higher.
Key words: Plantation, private plantation, social factors, economic factors, Turkey.
