Antifungal effects of Satureja essential oil on sclerotia-forming fungi: Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, S. rolfsii and Rhizoctonia solani

AMANMOHAMMAD KOMAKI

This study have been done to determine the effects of essential oils of six Satureja species such as; Satureja cilicica, S. cuneifolia, S. hortensis, S. montana, S. spicigera and S. thymbra on growth of Sclerotina sclerotiorum, S. rolfsii and Rhizcotonia solani in in vitro condition. The oils of Satureja species are used in three different concentration 10, 20 and 30µl for each 20 ml PDA medium with three replication for each pathogen species in each concentration. The results showed that, the oils of S. cilicica, S. hortensis, S. montana, S. spicigera and S. thymbra have effective control against the plant pathogenic fungi growth with 78.26% to 93.07% inhibitory. But the oil of S. cuneifolia showed less inhibitory (17.20 - 90.57%) than other Satureja species. The Satureja essential oils showed the strong antifungal activity against the fungal plant pathogen.
