Sheeba Rebecca Isaac and Bindu Podikunju

The investigation on documentation of the indigenous knowledge and farmers’ practices in vegetable seed production and storage has brought to light the local technologies known and adopted by the vegetable growers in Kollam district, South Kerala. It was revealed that commercial seed production was not common in the district and they relied on external agencies for seeds in crop production. The ITK in seed storage varied with the vegetable crop and the most common practice presently followed by the farmers was storing the seeds in ait tight containers but validation of the local practices illustrated scientific methodsof refrigerated storage to be superior to the local methods.
