Objectives: This study covers the microscopic studies, the phytochemical screening, acute toxicity evaluation and anti-inflammatory activity of the methanol extract of the leaves of Sabiceabrevipes. This plant has not been studied extensively; even when such studies were done; the focus was on the root rather than the leaf, which is easier to harvest and more abundant. Method: Free hand sections were used for anatomical evaluation, powder microscopy was done with chloral hydrate and dilute glycerine, phytochemical studies was also done using standard procedures. Mice were used for acute toxicity test using Lorke's method. Wistar rat paws were used for anti-inflammatory studies using formalin and egg albumen models. SPSS was used to run an ANOVA with statistical significance at p<0.05. Results: Leaf microscopy revealed abundant unicellular and multicellular elongated trichomes, wavy epidermal cell walls with paracytic stomata. Annular xylem vessels and stone cells were also seen. Acute toxicity test showed no death or abnormal behaviour in the mice. Significant (p< 0.05) anti-inflammatory effect was recorded at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg. Conclusion: The leaves of Sabiceabrevipes have anti-inflammatory activity, and this validates claims by the traditional medical practitioners.
