Knowing university students’ stress is critical for achieving higher educational outcomes as university settings are regarded as most stressful environment for students globally. The study was conducted to examine the stress among students in the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Ghana and also to ascertain the functionality of students’ gender and mode of study on their stress. The study adopted descriptive survey design. Nine hundred and forty undergraduate university students (male=504, female=436) with average age of 24.3 years were randomly sampled for the study. The stress scale developed by Bugre (2009) was main data collection instrument used. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the collected data. The results of the study indicated that generally Ghanaian undergraduate university students had a moderate level of stress. Moreover, study revealed that the leading stressor among the students was academic and then followed by environmental, administrative, campus and transition stressors. In addition, the t-test conducted showed no statistically significant difference between stress and gender (t(938)=-.752,p=.452) as well as stress and mode of study (t(938)=-1.412,p=.158). Furthermore, according to Two-Way ANOVA results, gender and mode of study affected their stress but the relationship was not significant F(1,936)=1.662, p=.198. The study, therefore provides new insight into students’ stress as well as interaction influence of gender and mode of study. It was recommended among others that university management should organize frequent seminars especially on stress management particular on academic stress.
