Abstract
This study aims to develop a scale for measuring the aesthetic leadership (AL) characteristics of the school directors and to show that it can be applicable. The population of the study is composed of the teachers who are on duty in the elementary, secondary and high schools located in Ä°zmit, Kocaeli. Sample of this descriptive study comprises 400 teachers selected by random sampling amongst the teachers who are on duty in the elementary, secondary and in the high schools located in Ä°zmit, Kocaeli. This study has been designed as descriptive research. At the end of scale developing process, an ALS with 51 items and 7 factors has been developed. The Cronbach Alpha reliability co-efficient of ALS has been found as 0.98. The application of the scale reflects that the school directors show a slightly higher level of AL behavior. Compared to the teachers, the school directors show higher level of aesthetic honesty, aesthetic communication, aesthetic appearance, aesthetic applications, aesthetic effort supports, aesthetic sensitivity which are the lower dimensions of the AL behaviors, while they show aesthetic approach at the medium level.
